BK On The Course!
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, July 31, 2008X Games starts today but Brian Kachinsky got started without us! He qualified 4th yesterday in a field of pretty heavy hitters and is on track to take home a medal and some dough.
Look for him to tear it up this afternoon, 4:30pm at the Staples Center in the first ever X Games BMX Street Competition here in LA.
Oh and... check out this BK feature on expn.com.

Adam In England
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, July 31, 2008Adam Baker reports from the Red Bull Empire of Dirt:
Wow what a contest. Kyle Forte has put together one of the craziest courses of all time. After my sixteen hours of travel I arrived in London to find that the airlines had lost my baggage. At first it was no big deal but after a few days it was a real bummer. No clean clothes, no toothpaste, and worst of all no bike.
Chris Doyle had had the same problem with his baggage a week earlier and had put together a new bike before getting his real one. This left him with two bikes one of which he let me use. I thought at first that his bike would be fine. Chris and I are the same height and ride almost the same bike. I was very wrong, it felt so strange and it left me just jumping the first few jumps and stopping quickly.
On the final day of practice I got my bike I ended up taking it pretty good on an opposite curved wall ride. I smashed my face and woke up the next day to find that I had sprained my wrist pretty good. I was real bummed to sit out one of the best contests that I have ever been to.
Even thought I was wrecked, I had a good time hanging out with Dylan Smith watching Ruben, Taj and Sergio shred the course. It is also always a good time getting to hang out with Mr. Povah.
I am here in England for another week filming for the S and M video. I am healing rather slow but hoping for the best. Good luck to all the boys in the x-mess.
Cheers,
Baker

We Shot Sally!
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, July 31, 2008We shot Sally... and she's lookin' good! Sally Fitzgibbons was in town for the US Open but we caught up with her last week for her first etnies photo shoot.
If there's one thing to be said about Sally Fitzgibbbons, it's that she's a happy kid. She's genuinely happy and really fun. Everything about her is so undeniably fresh and clean, from her smile to her goofy jokes. She'll wear her etnies flip flops on her hands behind her back and ask if, when only given a split second to see them on the count of three, if her fingers look like toes. She'll smile so naturally for the camera, all the while worrying about unintentionally throwing gang signs when not intentionally doing anything with her hands. And the way Sally can pal around with her dad all day long... it's enough to warm even my cold, little heart.
Scroll on to check out our behind the scenes fun... plus a tiny sneak peek at still unreleased Spring '09 etnies gear! And don't miss out on our Sally Fitzgibbons Giveaway... ending after today!

- Sally in hair & makeup... zhuzhing, as she calls it.

- Location #1: Brown's Park lookout in Laguna Beach

- Trying not to throw gang signs

- View from the lookout: spongers in full effect

- Exchanging flowers with TM Laura Lynn

- Sally and some sea shells/starfish

- Mad props

- Location #2: Thousand Steps Beach

- "How's this; is this a good shot?"

- "Ready? 1... 2... "

- "...3! Did they look like feet?"

- "The beach is... (flex) that way."

- Typical Sally

- Hence the name... "Thousand Steps"
Hey, Sally! Thanks for making my job just a day at the beach. And yes, they DO look a little like feet.

Sheckler Charity Golf Tournament!
Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Together with Wasserman Media Group, pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler will host the debut of the Ryan Sheckler X Games Celebrity Skins Classic to be held Tuesday, July 29, at the Trump National Golf Course in Palos Verdes, California as part of the mission of Sheckler's non-profit organization, The Sheckler Foundation. In addition to Sheckler's foundation, four other charities will be benefiting from the proceeds of the tournament. ESPN has been involved with and supported all four charities over the years. As part of this event, ESPN will be donating its skins to the Athlete Recovery Fund.
"I've always had a desire to help the kids who support me in my career and may not have had the same opportunities that I did," said the X Games multi-gold medalist, Ryan Sheckler. "I have reached a point where I have the ability to give back, and I'm honored to have such a great response for this tournament from my professional colleagues and friends."
Celebrities and their foursomes will tee off for an18-hole tournament and players will be pitted against one another in match play for the opportunity to win a $10,000 skin for the charity of their choice on each hole. Players will also take part in a putting contest for additional prizes with an awards ceremony and dinner to follow in the evening.
"We have been fortunate to have Ryan Sheckler compete in the X Games since 2003, and we're excited to partner with him and the Wasserman Media Group to benefit a number of charities devoted specifically to action sports," said Chris Stiepock, general manager and vice president, X Games franchise. "We look forward to growing this tournament into an annual X Games tradition for years to come."
Celebrities and Athletes
Anthony Anderson, Audrina Patridge, Kendra Wilkinson, Kevin Federline, Brody Jenner, Verne Troyer, Mia Hamm, Vicki Hurst, Bode Miller, Baron Davis, Carey Hart, Kevin Robinson, Cris Judd, Sal Masekela, Mason Aguirre, Jamie Bestwick, Ricky Carmichael, Chad Kagy, Eric Koston, Jeremy McGrath, Kevin Robinson, JJ Thomas, Travis Pastrana, and Dave Mirra will all take to the course with Ryan to raise money for a number of charitable organizations including Ryan's own.
The Charities
Charities benefiting from this tournament include Wings for Life, which funds scientific research into spinal cord injuries; Road 2 Recovery, which provides financial assistance to seriously injured motocross and supercross athletes and their families; The Athlete Recovery Fund, an organization which provides financial support for injured BMX, Moto and Skateboard athletes; and Boarding for Breast Cancer, a non-profit, youth-focused organization that works to create awareness about the disease.
About The Sheckler Foundation
The Sheckler Foundation was founded as an avenue for Ryan Sheckler, his family, friends and business associates to give back to the community and industry that they are so grateful to. The community is mostly comprised of children and their parents, who as his fans buy his products, attend his events, and watch his show. The industry is comprised of numerous action sports athletes and companies who have helped Ryan achieve monumental success. It was his ultimate desire to form a foundation that could contribute to many causes that directly benefit and enrich the lives of children. It is also his desire to support and fund programs that help action sports athletes who are injured in their line of work.

Leanne Rides HB...
Posted by: Alex | Monday, July 28, 2008Snow on the beach? Yep! It ain't Mammoth but... yes, when the time is right and planets align, you CAN ride HB. It was all part of the S3 Supergirl Jam in the US Open Village in Huntington Beach. Leanne came out to please the crowd and get her SoCal mid-summer kicks!

etnies Sweeps S3 Supergirl Skate Jam!
Posted by: Alex | Monday, July 28, 2008This past weekend's S3 Supergirl Jam was definitely one for the books. The etnies team swept the Skate Jam with Lauren Perkins in 1st, Rachel Reinhard 2nd and Evelien Bouilliart 3rd. AND, Evelien also scored a fat check for Best Trick... frontside bluntslide.

That's right, the surf wasn't the only thing popping in Huntington! Also in on the sesh were Lorena Lima (5th) and new etnies rider Brooke Durgin (10th). Welcome to the team Brooke! Some choice shots of the action on the street course...

Simpo & Eric!
Posted by: Alex | Monday, July 28, 2008Sunday brought hoards and madness to HB as spectators and beachgoers flocked to the final day of the US Open of Surf. As you know, Eric Geiselman and Brett Simpson were deep in the action. Our boys surfed together in heat 2 of the Quarter Finals and Simpo advanced to the Semis. He went on to place 3rd, prompting thunder from the crowd for the HB local! Can't nobody steal that thunder!

Sally Takes 3rd!
Posted by: Alex | Monday, July 28, 2008Sally's surf stylings earned her a 3rd place finish in the US Open this weekend! Hawaii's Malia Manuel and Coco Ho took 1st and 2nd, respectively, but Sally remains the current ASP WQS leader and will be a hard one to catch up to!

Malto's first pro box!
Posted by: Brink | Monday, July 28, 2008Imagine going pro and getting your first box of pro models? That's what happened to Sean Malto a few weeks ago.

Sergio Layos & Joe Rich!
Posted by: Alex | Monday, July 28, 2008Did you catch the Red Bull Empire of Dirt? Then you've already seen these gravity defying shots of Sergio Layos! He didn't make the podium but, as you can see, 7th place ain't bad when you kick this much ass getting there.
Meanwhile, at the US Open of Surf in good ol' HB, Joe Rich rocked the Soul Bowl for a very respectable 4th place in points, and 1st place for the Bowl's "Style Cat" Award.
Well done, gentlemen.

etnies Advances!
Posted by: Alex | Friday, July 25, 2008Day 2 of the US Open and the etnies team did some effing work! The waves weren't the best but the team made the most of it... pumping and snapping, poppin' & lockin'. All in a days work.
Killer performances today by Sally Fitzgibbons, Eric Geiselman and Brett Simpson (including his huge 9.87 wave moving him from 4th to 1st in his heat AND a totally separate big, fat frontside air!) have everyone advancing. Eric and Simpo move on to the Round of 24 tomorrow, Saturday the 26th, starting at 10 am, but we're watching Sally first in Heat 2 of the Women's Quarter Finals at 7:50 am!
Yeeeeewwwwwww!

Front Page Taj!
Posted by: Alex | Friday, July 25, 2008Taj tailwhipped his way right onto today's homepage of AustinChronicle.com. And Sandy Carson got the photo credit... if that ain't teamwork, well then I don't know what is.
The caption reads:
Taj Mihelich performs a tailwhip on the new miniramp at Patterson Park, across from Mueller. The ramp, open to skateboard and BMX riders, is part of a long-range effort to provide a citywide network of public skateboarding facilities. The Austin Public Skatepark Action Committee completed the Patterson ramp project with donated funds and volunteer construction labor.

The Pursuit Trailer 1 from Aaron Lieber on Vimeo.
The Pursuit is the first surf film on Blue Ray High Definition and DVD and features up and coming surfers from around the world. The film captures the drive that inspires us as surfers and human beings to take risks and keep getting back up on the board even in the face of failure. It demonstrates the raw passion displayed in a younger generation of surfers and is meant to resonate with the youth and encourage them to pursue their own goals and dreams both in surfing and life.

Rumor has it that his two new tricks should earn him another bit of X Games Gold next weekend!

Olivia de Bona For etnies Plus
Posted by: Alex | Wednesday, July 23, 2008LAKE FOREST, Calif. (July 24, 2008) – Straight from the city of light, etnies announces its latest collaboration with French artist Olivia de Bona for the etnies Plus collection. The partnership consists of the stylish Olivia Miranda boot, bringing the French artist’s unique twist into the spotlight. Available in both black and tan, the shoe is custom embroidered with de Bona’s designs and features the etnies signature STI Foam™ Footbed.
The etnies Plus collection is a one-of-a-kind, numbered, limited-edition shoe series featuring unusual, seldom-seen fabrics, hand-stitched construction and embroidered details. Each season, etnies embraces emerging artists such as Kenta and John Perello, whose work embodies the ideals of the etnies brand through limited-edition collaborations. de Bona joins this unique group of artists who carry on the etnies tradition of marrying artistic aesthetics with core skate values.
French-born, de Bona is part of a collective movement of urban artists displaying their work throughout Europe using various mediums including graffiti, sketching and painting. de Bona creates magical worlds through her illustrations and paintings, striving to lead her fans through imaginary journeys with her work.
The etnies Plus collection is sold exclusively in select stores around the world and has created its own niche amongst footwear connoisseurs. The Olivia de Bona collaboration will be available in stores in September 2008.
Empire Of Dirt Live
Posted by: Alex | Wednesday, July 23, 2008It's time for our boys to get dirty across the pond... and I'll be watching the LIVE WEBCAST below, this Saturday, from the understated comfort of my LoveSac. I suggest you do the same or you'll miss the aerial stylings of Taj, Baker, Sergio, Ruben and Perico (riding for etnies Spain!).
Red Bull Empire of Dirt is the the world's first BMX dirt slopestyle contest. The course has got "every thing you could ever dream of if you're into BMX". If last year's course is anything to go by, the event is going to be something serious to behold. After having been totally washed out last year, riders, organizers and spectators alike have been waiting patiently to get back to the Devon Dirt to take care of some unfinished business.
At last the wait is almost over... 35 world class riders from all over the globe are packing their bags while the last tones of dirt are being positioned. They're off to Newton Abbot in Devon, UK to have an awesome weekend. Applications for tickets are already closed so if you haven't already got one, you ain't going. But never fear, as this event is ultra gnarly the Freecaster.tv team will, of course, be there to make sure you don't miss a dirty bit of it.

This One's For My Vegans...
Posted by: Alex | Tuesday, July 22, 2008Where my vegans at?! This one's for you.
So you wanna know which of our shoes are vegan? Lots of you have asked, and while I do enjoy spending my time sending the same email over and over... and over... it's YOUR time that I don't wanna waste. As such, we've added a new little vegan symbol to the site. Now you can browse all our footwear and rest assured that anytime you see that symbol underthe product description, it's totally animal-free and friendly.

Of course, it'll be smaller than that... more like this.
Here's a big fat list of our vegan shoes for Fall, but for future seasons and while perusing our fine wares, don't forget that the materials, and thus vegan-ness, vary between colorways of the same shoe so be sure to click each color. Thanks for caring about the beef!

Layos Update!
Posted by: Alex | Tuesday, July 22, 2008What's up with Sergio Layos? I was wondering that very same thing until I got his update email. And here it is for you read... because sharing is caring.
hey man! how you doing?
news:
I spent some times with Ruben and my friend Guiri on the north west coast of Spain. That is an area that is not really discovered yet and it has some amazing places. We spent there a week, surfing and riding. After that I had to leave to the Canary Islands for a demo at a
music festival. It was really fun but I went there for a day and that is not much for a place like that. After that I came back home for my birthday and my brother prepared a little party on the trails. It was really fun! Here are some pictures of it here! After that I haven't been doing much... sometimes coming back home is like a little holiday for me.
I hope you like the pictures!
