Hannu Update!
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, May 22, 2008Our man Hannu Cools dropped us a line and sent some pics from the road...

Damn, sorry I write you back so late; you might have been worried. I am not injured, but had a couple of busy but exciting weeks. I went to Montpellier in south of France for a contest called 'fise'. The contest is not really that fun (its another circus contest like they all seem to be these days), but it was really good to see all the friends again! And as my girlfriend joined me, going there was just an excuse to hang out in the sun at the beach.

After the contest we had an Eastpak dinner with my good friend Andy Zeis and the riders, which was really fun! Then the minute after, me and Birte drove out of the city to sleep on the beach! That was so good—clear sky with lots of stars, away from all the buildings, chilling sound of waves! We had a really good sleep there! When we woke up we realized we were on a nude beach, haha. Pretty handy because I forgot my swim shorts and wanted to go for a swim:)
Afterwards we picked up a lot of fruits at a local market and started driving a small road through the swampy area of south France—the "camarque", a natural area with wild horses! We continued on the small roads passing "Aix en Provence". We followed a mountain road that led us to the French grand canyon wich was amazing! Definitely go back there one day!

Then we headed home because I had to help build a set up for a demo in a Belgian festival called Groezrock.

It was fun. We had crazy good weather and Toby Forte flew over to ride with us! It was so good to see him again!

We started taking the course apart at night because I was desperate to go to our trails with Toby!

We were finished Sunday midday and Toby had his flight Tuesday evening, so we had two full days to play on MX trails. Jess (Toby's girlfriend) and Birte hung out while we went riding, and in the night we met at my place to have a BBQ!
After I dropped Jess and Toby at the airport I was so exausted! Went to bed early because I had to work the next day. On wednesday and friday i worked 27hours(!!) which was pretty nuts, but as my weekend started today already, I shouldn't complain!
Now I have to go and fix my van because on the trip a fuse caught fire, which is not really normal :)

An Update from Hannu!

- Sequence mania!
Funny, two weeks ago me, my brother and some friends went for a night street session because we wanted to try a spot on a highway. After half an hour it was getting boring, so we drove to a chill place and had some beers. After a couple more hours, we decided to go on a road trip to the south of France. So we went to bed and the next morning we bought 7 crates of beer (when it comes to beer we are kind of Patriotic), four bottles of whiskey and some spaghetti. We left at night and arrived in the morning at a bowl in Metz (France). We rode a bit, then left to Nancy for a really old school open peanut bowl, which is very tight/vert/sketchy. My brother loved it and was all over the place!
After that we just slept, played Frisbee, drank beer, cooked some pasta. At night we drove to the South for 7 more hours to “Greoux les Baines” to the trails of Black Jack (of the “People Jam”). It was really hot and we were exhausted, so we just went swimming, drank some beer and cracked some drinking coconuts! Around 5, Black Jack showed up and we rode for an hour. The trails are amazing! Afterwards, we barbequed and more beers of course.

- Swampy!
We slept outside next to the trails and woke up early to have a cool morning session. The rest of the hot day was chilling, swimming and of course, more beer! We also made some drinking cups of the empty coconuts—the best cups I ever had—perfect for whiskey/coke, and, as my friend is a smoker, I made one with a cigarette holder… hehe.
That night we had an evening session again and with a stupid little jump my brother broke his collarbone. Went to the doctor and he called for surgery.
So we drove home 20 hours, arrived, went to hospital and they said, "Its ok, no surgery." So we bought some extra crates of beer and drove to Germany for the rest of the weekend and spent most of the time in the WTP office (they also have a little hangar with ramps at the moment). So, except for my brother’s bad luck, it was an awesome trip. Especially because it wasn’t planed at all.
Only a pity nobody with a camera could join us.
Greetz,
Hannuman
